FAQ

  • Q

    35. I’m preparing to choose a motor. If there is a selection tool or guide lines for choosing a motor, could you please send it to me?

  • A

If you want to select a motor properly, please contact our distributor or call our sales department(Tel. 032-234-6300), we will give you a detailed answer. Moreover, with our Motor Selection Tool you will be able to view all four applications and select your own motor through our website.

    ■ When you select a motor, Load's inertia Moment Ratio must be less than 30.   If it's not, the motor still can operate but a change in the motor's  operation behavior   (vibration at Acc/Dec, overshoot and undershoot as the motor runs and stops, consequently settling time increase) can occur.

    ■ Motor Selection Tool Demonstration on FASTECH Website    (Application demonstration - Direct Drive Rotary Table)

    (1) Fill in the yellow blanks with the basic data.

    ※ Precautions

The outer diameter of the table is the radius from the rotation center point to the farthest point of the work, and double the value.Positioning time is the time including acceleration, deceleration and constant velocity time.Acceleration / deceleration time means acceleration time and deceleration time. If acceleration time and deceleration time are the same, it is calculated as acceleration time and if it is different, it is calculated as short time.

The reduction gear efficiency can be calculated as 90% for 1st stage and 81% for 2nd stage for general planetary gear reducer. The safety factor is 2 times the default, and if you are concerned about the safety, please put a larger value.

    (1) Click the ‘Calculate’ button to check the motor speed and torque.

    (2) Click ‘See Torque Curve of Selected Motor’ and choose a motor which has an over running torque at the desired RPM.

    (3)  Check Rotor Inertia Moment / Jo

    (4) Put Rotor Inertia Moment, Jo and click the ‘Calculate’ button.

    (5) Check Load’s Inertia Moment Ratio / K.

    ■ If Ratio / K is over than 30, choose a bigger motor which has a higher inertia moment Or recalculate by increasing the ration of the reducer.(Inertia Moment is reduced as 1/ration of reducer 2 when using a reducer.)

  • Q

    31. FASTECH’s product is based on stepping motors which means it can’t calculate Watt capacity like the servo motor. How can you provide me with the rough capacity estimation or motor size in or to replace the servo system?

  • A

As you’ve mentioned, the servo motor calculates by Watt. It is because the servo motor’s torque is constant regardless of speed. As for the stepping motor, it is difficult to calculate by Watt because the motor’s torque varies depending on speed.

However, the capacity at each speed is needed to reveal the number of Watts. The following table is about interchangeable capacity from the servo motor to the step motor at around 1000rpm. In the case of the rpm exceeding 1000, the torque might lower below the capacity, so please be cautious of this.

  • Q

    30. I’m using a general stepping motor, but it’s difficult to control the motor at a low speed due to vibration. Are there any suggested products that can operate properly at low speeds?

  • A

FASTECH’s Ezi-STEP can control vibration at low speed by using the following functions which are different than other products.

    1. High precision Micro step function and Filtering

       - The high-performance DSP operates at step resolutions of 1.8° up to maximum 0,0072°(1/250 steps)

       - Ezi-STEP adjusts PWM control signal in every 25uSec, which makes it possible for more precise current

control, resulting in high-precision Microstep operation.

       - Moreover, at very low speeds, Ezi-STEP can operate smoothly by Software Filtering.

    2. Software Damping

      - Motor vibration is created by magnetic flux variations of the motor, lower current from the driver due to back-emf from the motor at high speeds and lowering

of phase voltages from the driver. Ezi-STEP driver detects these problems and the DSP adjusts the phase of the current according to the pole position of

the motor, drastically su[ppr]ession vibration. This allows the smooth operation of the motor at high speeds.

  • Q

    29. I’d like to make equipment which requires the torque control to use a cylinder or a screw. Does FASTECH product have this function?

  • A

Torque Control function(or Push Motion function) by Ezi-SERVO is used when  the specified motor torque is needed during motioning and Stop(only in Stop- mode) status.

    · In certain position, Position Control can be converted to Torque Control.

    · After converted to Force Control from Position Control, it maintain the Torque when it reached the certain force.

    · Function explanation

In certain position, it changes to Torque Control from Position Control.

After converted to Torque Control, it moves to detect Work. When it reaches a certain Torque, it stops and then maintain the torque.

    ①  Send Command ‘Push Motion’

②  Send Command ‘Position Motion’ and then run it. (Position Mode State)

③  It reduces the speed from ‘Position Motion’ and change the speed of ‘Push Motion’

(In this case, the speed must be less 400[rpm])

④  It moves until detect the Work, and once detect maintain the torque.

(Push Mode State) (In Position Signal Output)

  • Q

    28. FASTECH sells products with various types of actuators. Why is that?

  • A

    1. Convenience for customer choice2. Motor & mechanics function optimization3. Fast technical support

FASTECH product is based on a Closed loop stepping system.Basically, customers have been using the servo motor and open loop stepping motor for various applications. However, those are not always optimal for each application.(Ex, ina[ppr]opriate servo motor usage, open loop stepping motor problems such as ‘Step Out’, incapability of using 100% torque, etc)

Customers are prone to purchasing motors and actuators separately resulting in the above problems.

FASTECH has various methods for customers to purchase our products in one stop by adding Ezi-SERVO to proper actuators such as an index table, compact actuator, cylinder, alignment stage, etc. If customers have an inquiry or a problem with our product, we provide a quick response.

  • Q

    27. Ezi-SERVO is a full closed loop system. Is it possible to switch this to a Semi-Closed loop?

  • A

Ezi-SERVO is a basically Full closed loop system. However, we can also provide a Semi Closed Loop Ezi-SERVO if it’s necessary or requested by customer.

Ezi-SERVO basically can be set  In-Position value from 0 to 7. However, Semi-Closed Loop is applied , In-position value can be modified according to parameter, If the parameter is 0, Ezi-SERVO is a full closed loop system. If the parameter is 1, it’s a semi-closed loop system. Semi Closed Loop’s  In-Position value range is up to 49 pulse. The Semi-Closed loop can stop completely when the high inertia of load stops. However it functions with the open loop in its halted condition(±1.8°) which means the position accuracy is not precise compared to the Full closed loop mode. Please refer to it.

  • Q

    26. Is there any relation between settling time and In-Position range due to settling time gap between Ezi-SERVO and general AC Servo system?

  • A

Setting time of Ezi-SERVO-ST can be differentiated according to range of In-Position setting. It is available to set In-Position range between 0~7 Pulse but settling time, response speed against In-Position gets faster if position error range gets bigger. For example if set value is ‘0’ as the lowest value of In-Position, it will guarantee the most accurate positioning but settling time can be slightly longer. Conventional servo system has faster settling time but most of range is for example ±100 pulse so it has quite big range. If we compare Ezi-SERVO and AC Servo under exactly same In-Position check condition, absolutely response speed and accuracy of Ezi-SERVO will be premier than AC Servo system.

Also In-position response can be set by simple Rotary Switch selection to be [Fast Response] or [Accurate Response] for convenience and accuracy of operation.

** Except for Ezi-SERVO series, Please refer to the product Catalogue or Manual for In-Position setting method.

*1 : Factory default setting value is ‘0’.
